Emory University Symphony Orchestra

As a part of the Emory University Symphony Orchestra’s 100th anniversary, Sierra King collaborated with Paul Bhasin to create “I Will Remember You”, a speculative narrative and archival installation. The installation was created in response and as an accompaniment to African-American Composer George Walker’s piece “Lyrics for For Strings”.

During rehearsals, students engaged in interpretive activities that allowed them to shape how the piece would be performed. In addition to a performance at the Emory Schwartz Center’s Emerson Concert Hall, a string quartet performed the piece at a laundromat – a space selected as Bhasin and King wanted to place the musicians and the photographs in a gathering setting where it was not normal to hear or see orchestral music.
