Nia Jackson, an Atlanta-based portrait artist born and raised in Jackson, MS, received her Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College. Her time there was a transformational period; Jackson found her artistic voice recalling her youth facing racial and cultural challenges. Her early work investigated the lack of diversity within fairytales and how this contributes to issues of identity and self-worth among black youth. Currently, as an MFA candidate at Savannah College of Art and Design, Jackson’s work celebrates Black individuality by highlighting the beauty of African-American culture through everyday life narrative portraits.
Jackson’s work is held in private collections throughout the southeast and featured in regional art shows, like Midnight Exhibition at Mint Gallery (2023). Her paintings have been reviewed in VoyageATL magazine (2022) and True-Blue Magazine (2022), highlighting her journey as an artist and her company, Art By Nia J.
