Leo Briggs (she/they) is a dance artist based in Atlanta, Georgia. They graduated summa cum laude from the Dance & Movement Studies program at Emory University, with a secondary major in Chemistry. Leo’s research documents the modern queer and trans liberation movement and connects it to a lineage of radical queer history-makers. Their artistic practice recently culminated in an evening-length performance, Search History, which examined seminal texts such as Annie Proulx’s Brokeback Mountain, The Silence of the Lambs, and the work of artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres. Leo has also been published in the Journal of Emerging Dance Scholarship for their undergraduate work analyzing the portrayals of female masculinity and sexual assault in Kenneth MacMillan’s ballet Manon. Leo lives in Decatur with her partner. In their spare time, they enjoy making cocktails and doing crossword puzzles.
